Aslickly tooled erotic suspense story with a quartet of personable leads, "Nightfire" delivers the soft-core goods but falters in the last reel with some underwhelming thriller elements. Pruning would sharpen the product, which should have a decent life on vid shelves.

Aslickly tooled erotic suspense story with a quartet of personable leads, “Nightfire” delivers the soft-core goods but falters in the last reel with some underwhelming thriller elements. Pruning would sharpen the product, which should have a decent life on vid shelves.

The simple plot has Shannon Tweed and John Laughlin as an unhappily married couple who live on a spectacularly appointed, remote ranch. Tweed’s a high-powered businesswoman who neglects her spouse, who becomes increasingly into kinky sex while she remains frigid.

Enter Martin Hewitt and Rochelle Swanson, a couple who like to walk on the wild side. They drop in at the ranch claiming a car breakdown, but it soon becomes clear that Laughlin’s hired them to behave sexily in front of Tweed in an attempt to turn her on.

So there are frequent scenes in which the well-built duo fondle each other in the jacuzzi, or anywhere else that’s handy.

Tweed is just disgusted by all the carrying on, however, so Laughlin turns even nastier.

Pic unfolds in a predictable manner, but fans of the genre shouldn’t be disappointed, especially when the formidable Tweed and Swanson do their thing, which is most of the time. Tech credits are fine.
